About Salika Vocational Training Institute

Salika Vocational Training Institute is a project of ELY Foundation. Launched to commemorate Pakistan’s independence day; 14 August 2018 to empower young girls of the landless/ tenant families through skill development. Regular training courses are held in Embroidery, stitiching, Tilla, Zardozi, Gota, and Tailoring to enable the skilled girls earn their livelihood. Currently three qualified, experienced and dedicated teachers have been engaged to impart skill training to the students.

Monthly character building sessions, activities are held to create awareness on traditional values, religious morals and national principles. A mini exhibition is held at the time of passing out of each class to display their work for exposition of skills to the visiting guests. Prizes are awarded to encourage the able and hard working students at the end of each course. The first position holder gets a Rocket brand sewing machine, the second and the third position holder are awarded sewing tools and household goods e.g, ironing board, iron.

Achievement

In less than a year, Salika Training project has trained and awarded course completion certificates to over 40 girls certifying their skills in Embroidery, Hand Stiching, Machine Tailoring, Tilla, and Zardozi; Tailoring for kids, ladies and gents including fancy tailoring (Sarhi blouse, Lehnga, Gharara etc.).

Currently 27 girls are registered and attending the training.

The Goal

The Goal was to develop skills of at least 200 girls of the total 1000 young girl’s population of Chak 89 SB and turn them into self employed bread earners for their families by 2022. However we succeeded to train over 300 girls of Chak 89 SB by 2022,which is above our stipulated goal.The gap is too large, the need too urgent and the challenges are inexplicable!
